For Parents wanting to Donate

A number of educational institutions ask that parents donate a book each year in order to help stock the library or reading corners in classrooms. In many cases, the school or kinder may not receive the range of titles it seeks. Meanwhile, for the parents, this becomes yet one more job that needs to be done and it can be a challenge to find decent books.

The Book and Toy Company can work with your school or kinder to ensure that they receive the variety of high quality books that they really want and need, whilst making the whole process super convenient for you, the parents, and creating enthusiasm from the students as they get to influence what goes into their library. In addition, we have committed to delivering all donated books free of charge to the school.

If the school has not indicated which books they would prefer, all of our selection is available online on our website at: www.thebookandtoycompany.com. From there you can choose from a wide variety of suitable, age-appropriate books. Once chosen, proceed to checkout by clicking on ‘Add to cart’, from there, please enter the following discount code Don2SCH to cancel the shipping fee on the order in the ‘voucher code’ box (Please note that the voucher code is valid only for school donations). After the code has been entered, click on ‘checkout’ where you will need to indicate payment method (card, bank transfer, or check), your name and shipping address as well as the name of the school to which you’re donating in the delivery address line. We are accepting all donation purchases up until the beginning of the school year, on which day we will deliver all of the books donated with the name of the donor indicated for the corresponding book.

For Schools, Kinders and Daycares: Managing Book Donations from Parents

A number of educational institutions ask that parents donate a book each year in order to help stock the library or reading corners in classrooms. In many cases, the school or kinder may not receive the range of titles it seeks. Meanwhile, for the parents, this becomes yet one more job that needs to be done and it can be a challenge to find decent books.

How Does it Work?

Essentially, the school signs up as a member of The Book and Toy website (www.thebookandtoycompany.com/yourarea.asp). Once set up as a member, the institution can create a wish list of books that they would like to have in their library/classrooms etc. To add to the wishlist, each time you view a book, the 'Add to Wishlist' button will appear. Click and the title is added immediately to your wishlist. You can add fiction and nonfiction reading books as well as project resources for both students and teachers. The Book and Toy Company staff can be on hand to help you to create this wish list, sharing our experience of the children’s book market to ensure a selection of quality books that children will want to read. If some of your desired titles are not listed or are out of stock, you can request these and we will do our best to add them to the range.

Once the wish list is set up, you send an email to parents, requesting that they choose and pay for their donated book from our site. We will send you a template email with instructions for how to purchase and from within the wishlist page, you can click on 'Share Wishlist'. This will give you the url (permalink) that you include in your email to parents so that they can directly access the wishlist. The Book and Toy Company will then deliver all books bought as a donation by parents to the school/kinder/daycare before the start of the academic year, together with a list of titles donated by each child/parent. The school accumulates a credit of 10% of sales of donated books which can be redeemed as free books. This translates to approximately one free book for every ten books purchased.

This process can be carried out at any time of the year, as and when the school decides to boost their selection of reading books available to students. If the school also plans to invest in new stock, we suggest that the school promises to match parent purchases – e.g. for every book bought by a parent, the school also buys one. This allows the school to see a high impact on its investment. For example, in a school of 500 students, the school can receive 1,100 books by investing in the purchase of just 500 books. (500 books bought by the school + 500 books bought by parents + 100 free books). As always, The Book and Toy Company can help with the selection of these titles.
